Weekend Recap + This Week’s Meal Plan

Oh boy, did we have a crazy weekend.

Saturday morning was rough. After Bessie’s morning walk she ate her food like normal and then about one hour later she started acting really strangely. She was sitting up in her bed and rocking from side to side, when all of a sudden she scrambled out of her bed, but was only moving with her two front legs. It was as though her hind legs were limp. She started hiding underneath one of our dining room chairs until we scooped her out to see what was wrong.

At first we thought that her legs had fallen asleep (we Googled it and apparently that can happen to dogs just like humans), but we knew things were bad when Bessie started vomiting. I’ll leave it at that and spare you the gory details, but just know that it was bad.

Travis recalled she may have eaten something off the ground on their morning walk. This isn’t anything new for us though, because Bessie tries to eat everything off the ground, but we’re usually quick to pull her away or grab whatever is in her mouth.

After she threw up, we decided to call the vet because she was still acting very strange. They told us to come in immediately. We hopped in the car and I put Bessie on my lap because at that point she still wasn’t moving on her own.

Bessie at the Vet l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

When we arrived (luckily, the vet is only a 5 minute drive from our apartment), they told us they thought we would be better treated at the emergency hospital, so we left to go there.

Not going to lie, when the vet tells you that you’d be better treated elsewhere, it’s concerning. Obviously, Bessie couldn’t tell us what was wrong or how she was feeling, so Travis and I were really worried. I’ll admit it, I cried. I’m very sensitive when it comes to Bessie and her health. Since she’s a rescue, we don’t really know how old she is or much about her medical history, so when anything goes wrong, I worry. (Man, how the heck am I going to be when I have kids one day!?)

Luckily, the vet at the emergency hospital could see us right away, and she told us that she thought Bessie picked up a tiny marijuana bud off the ground on her walk. UGH! Marijuana is very toxic to dogs. I was very quick to tell the vet that neither of us smoke, and she said that sadly, she’s seen many cases of this in Santa Monica and Venice. We never would have guessed this because we consider Santa Monica to be so clean.

Man, no wonder Bessie was acting so strangely! The vet said she wanted to keep Bessie there for the rest of the day to detox her and monitor her behavior in case of a seizure (which can happen in these cases).

Bessie at the Hospital l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

Thankfully, Bessie had a good recovery and we were able to pick her up around 10PM on Saturday night. She was still a little out of it, but we knew she’d be okay when she went crazy for her favorite treats.

She gave us such a scare and now we are 10x more cautious when we walk her.  I normally wouldn’t write such a long post about my dog’s health, but I wanted to let any of you pet-owners know that this can happen. Be careful out there!

This Week's Meal Plan l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

Now onto happier things! Food.

I’ve been pretty spotty with meal planning the last few weeks, but this week I made sure to plan at least 5 healthy dinners for us.

Here is this week’s meal plan:

Monday: Turkey Paninis on Dave’s Killer Bread

Tuesday: Picadillo Tacos with Beyond Meat Beefy Crumbles

Wednesday: Korean BBQ Chicken Lettuce Wraps with Gochujang

Thursday: Arugula Salad with Balsamic Chicken, Farro, Apples, and Gouda

Friday: Dinner out (Meredith is in town!)

Saturday: Turkey Meatballs (because we’re obsessed)

I hope you guys have a great Monday!

Bessie and Her Many “Beds”

Alternative titles for this post:

Bessie the Bed Thief

My Dog Makes No Sense

My Incredibly Creative, Very Obsessive Dog

Since, it’s Friday (YIPPPEEEE!) I was feeling a very lighthearted post for today. I personally love when I get a little sneak peak into a blogger’s life, so I thought it would be fun to share one of the things that makes Travis and me laugh constantly around here.

Bessie has this thing where she likes to lay on ANYTHING that we put on the ground. Suitcases, Ikea bags, clothing, dirty laundry (ew, I know), you name it – she sleeps there.

Let’s get this straight, though. Bessie has some pretty damn comfortable beds. In fact, she LOVES her beds, but she also really loves making new ones.

I was inspired to write this post when Travis and I discovered her like this yesterday morning:

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

She had pulled the blanket off of our bed and placed it partially on top of her bed. Her back was resting up against a hard part of our bed frame, so there was no way that this could have been comfortable for her, but she stayed here for a solid hour. Total. Weirdo.

But you guys, this isn’t anything new.

Please excuse the incredibly blurry photo, but this is the day it all started two years ago. Travis came home, dropped his backpack on the floor and all of a sudden Bessie we saw Bessie leave her cozy bed to go lay on Travis’s bag. With a laptop inside, that backpack really couldn’t have been that comfortable, but…to each her own?

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

Then there’s the time we got a big new Mac computer and Bessie decided that the cardboard box it came in would be her new hideout for the next few hours.

Forts are cool, I guess?

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

Sometimes it’s clothes, though. Do you guys remember this photo? It was the time I was trying to photograph some stuff for the blog and Bessie just had to be the center of attention.

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

This dog is also obsessed with warm laundry out of the dryer.

Okay, honestly, I don’t blame her for this one. Laying in a pile of warm laundry on a chilly night might just be the best feeling ever.

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

What’s not convenient, though, is the persistence to lay on top of clean clothes while we fold. Bessie I love you and all, but…dog hair.

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

And getting dressed in the morning can sometimes take a little longer than usual. If I pull my sweater box out from underneath the bed, I can almost guarantee that she’ll climb in it.

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

It’s the dirty laundry I don’t get it. If I sort laundry on the floor and walk away for a little bit she’ll make a new bed for herself.

Because what smells better than sweaty gym clothes, amiright!?

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

Okay people, here is my favorite.

Whenever we pack for trips or come back from a trip and begin to unpack, our suitcases become automatic beds.

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

The first time Bessie did this to Travis we thought, “Aww that’s so sweet! She missed you!”

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

But then she continued to lay in the suitcases even after they had been emptied…

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.comBessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

Oh, and don’t even get me started on trying to pack for a trip. Here’s a photo from last summer just after I had packed my suitcase for our trip to England. I spent a solid hour trying to pack all of my clothes for eight days into a carry-on suitcase. It was a serious struggle, but I did it.

When I was done, I stepped away for no more than two minutes to grab something from the other room, but when I came back into the bedroom, somehow all of my clothes were unfolded and jumbled up in my suitcase. I think we can all assume who the culprit was here.

And I mean I get it. She’s probably thinking, “You’re not going anywhere without me this time, Mommy!”

I definitely am sympathetic, but you’ve gotta admit that she’s totally nutso!

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

But it’s not just our stuff that Bessie selects as a new bed. Whenever we dog sit our friends’ dogs, Bessie loves to “test out” their beds. I guess she’s a girl who likes her options?

Bessie’s doggie friends sure are accommodating, though! Take a look:

Exhibit A: Not Bessie’s bed.

(Sorry Woody!)

(Sorry Sammy!)

Exhibit C: Not Bessie’s bed.

(Sorry Bailey!)

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

Exhibit D: CLEARLY not Bessie’s bed.

(We’re really sorry, Benny. You sure were nice to let her borrow your big king-sized bed, though.)

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

I really hope that doesn’t make you think Bessie is selfish, because she’s far from it. Travis and I joke that she really just likes “testing out” other dog beds. And besides, if it’s in our house she might genuinely think it’s for her.

In the end, Bessie just wants to be part of all of the activity.

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

She loves us unconditionally and if something smells like us, she’ll likely take it and lay on it because she is an absolute love machine.

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

And as much as we poke fun at her bizarre tendencies, we love our little happy girl so, so much.

Bessie and Her Many Beds l www.littlechefbigappetite.com

The end!

Loving Lately

What I am Loving Lately – November 2015

Hello! Happy Friday! This week was been nuts at work, so I am really looking forward to a super low-key weekend around here. Travis and I have no plans, and I couldn’t be more excited. Tonight we’ll probably eat leftovers and binge watch some TV on Hulu. I know, crazy stuff, you guys!

I thought I’d kick off this Friday with a list of things I am loving lately. Let’s do this!

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

How could this not make the top of the list this week?

I am ECSTATIC to go home to Boston next week and spend Thanksgiving with my favorite humans in the world. Thanksgiving is the biggest tradition for our family, and this year will be the last year we celebrate in my childhood home. It’s going to be a very sad for us, but I can’t wait to soak up every second of family time and, of course, eat tons of delicious food. It will be so nice to unplug from work for a bit and enjoy actual fall weather on the East coast.

Bean Box

Bean Box

Have you heard of Bean Box? I swear there is a subscription service for everything these days.

I received a free month of Bean Box and I was instantly HOOKED. I am a big time coffee lover, but I tend to buy what I know and love. It’s rare that I branch out and try new beans. Bean Box sends you small samples of beans that you’ve likely never heard of and it’s a great way to try new coffees without buying a full bag. I’ve already tried a few new brews that I am in love with.

The great part is that if you like what you try, you can always order from Bean Box at a special discounted rate. If you have a coffee lover in your life, I highly recommend this as a holiday gift this year!

Quantico

Quantico

Does anyone else watch this show? Travis and I are hooked. It’s about a diverse group of FBI agents training at Quantico. After they graduate, a big terrorist attack happens in NYC and basically everyone is a suspect.

I will be 100% straight up and tell you now that the writing is a little bit silly, but the plot is addicting and every week I can’t wait to find out what happens next every Sunday night.

Tusk the Dog

If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you’ll remember that Travis and I used to foster dogs before we adopted Bessie. (In fact, we fostered Bessie for 7 months before we finally realized she was part of our little family and it was time to adopt her!)

One of the 14 dogs (!!!) we fostered was Tiara, an adorable senior terrier mix with one tooth and who’s tongue hung out the side of her mouth. She was adopted fairly quickly and I knew she was going to a very loving forever home.

Recently, I was THRILLED when I saw that she is now an official Instagram celebrity with over 41K followers. Like, what!?!?

Screen Shot 2015-11-20 at 10.13.09 AM

Her mom renamed her Tusk (because of her one tooth) and has officially made her a social media star. I love when I see happy endings for all these adorable homeless pups.

Amazon Smile

Amazon Smile Logo

Speaking of giving back, do you guys know about Amazon Smile? I buy #ALLTHETHINGS on Amazon, so I was pumped when I found out that you can buy the same exact items with the same great prices AND donate to your favorite charity. If you use smile.amazon.com, Amazon donates a small portion of the purchase price to the charitable organization of your choice.

I selected Much Love Animal Rescue, the rescue organization Travis and I volunteer for (where Bessie and Tiara/Tusk came from!), and it’s so awesome knowing that a small amount of the money I am spending on Amazon is going to a cause I care so much about. It’s SUPER easy to sign up and if you’re a big time Amazon shopper like me, I highly recommend you do this!

Have a great weekend, friends! See you next week!

Life Lately

An October Photo Dump

Oh mannnnnnn where has this month gone? October has been so busy for me.

– We’ve had a ton of visitors

– We had an ant infestation in our apartment (don’t even get me started on this one…)

– I’ve been working a lot

– I had an eye infection + Travis was really sick. Bleh!

– And it’s been ridiculously hot in Los Angeles.

Travis and I both feel as though we haven’t been very healthy the past month and we’re looking forward to getting back on track together. Because it’s been so hot in our apartment, we haven’t cooked as much as we usually do, which means a lot of take-out. While we try to get “healthier” take-out, it’s still not as clean as when we cook ourselves. Also, when we have visitors, we tend to eat out (and drink) much more than usual. And on top of it all, since both of us have had our share of illnesses, we haven’t been able to hit the gym as frequently.

This past weekend we did a BIG grocery run at Whole Foods and stocked up on lots of healthy meals and snacks for the week. We’re both looking forward to cooking more and we’re pushing each other to go to the gym every morning before work.

Whole Foods

To get this Monday rollin’ I am going to share a big old photo dump of recent pics from my iPhone.

Let’s go!

Travis dressed Bessie up to root for the Yankees in their last game. Sadly (for Travis), her jersey didn’t do much to help the team. Bessie has the same attitude towards sports as I do… she wasn’t even facing the TV the entire game.

Bessie

October in LA has been unbearably hot for everyone. It’s been 90+ degrees a majority of the time and all of us are wondering where the heck fall is. The mornings have been the best time to exercise because the temps are cooler. I’ve been lucky to catch some AWESOME photos of sunrises along the beach like this one.

Santa Monica

We’ve had a lot of events at work lately. On this particular day, I was photographing (and taste-testing!) new seasonal cocktails.

CHAYA Downtown Cocktail

My favorite twins (Liz and Becky) in town from the East coast last weekend! We rowed together in high-school and college (well, they rowed and I was their coxswain). Now that I live across the country, it’s rare I get to see them, so I was reaaaaaally excited for their visit. We had an awesome weekend together and packed so much into just three days. One highlight was sitting at the bar at Wally’s in Beverly Hills and tasting lots of awesome wines.

Friends in LA

On the Sunday of their visit, we took a road trip down the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway).

Friends in LA

…And hopped out somewhere in Malibu to snap a photo together.

Friends in LA

The next day my parents were in town! YAY! YAY!

I took them to lunch at CHAYA Downtown Los Angeles (one of the restaurants for which I work). They both loved their meals and it was a blast “taking them to work” with me.

Mom and Dad in LA

My current favorite item on the menu at work: Salmon with Caper-Tomato Salsa, Lotus Chips, and an Arugula Salad. I could eat this every day. So flavorful and light.

Salmon at CHAYA Downtown

This weekend Travis and I INTENDED to lay low because everything’s been so busy, but I guess that wasn’t really in the cards.

We ended up doing a lot of stuff around the house: laundry, meal prep…and in Trav’s case, building a new desk.

Travis Desk

(Which he was very proud of).

TJ Maxx

Anyone who knows me knows I am obsessed with TJ Maxx. I buy everything there: clothing, accessories, suitcases, home decor, dog beds, kitchen equipment, everything. The closest TJ Maxx is only 3 blocks from our apartment (YIPPPEEEE!), so I constantly pop in to see what’s new in stock. On Sunday I was in search of decorative storage options for our apartment.

I walked home with the most massive bag of stuff, which looked a tad ridiculous because I am so petite. I definitely counted that as my second workout for the day.

Bessie

A few months ago, I talked about Bessie’s egg bed and how she was obsessed with it. Unfortunately, it was recently torn in the washing machine, so I had to get a new one.

When I last posted about this bed, it was ridiculously priced on Amazon, but it’s since gone waaaaay down, so we bought a new one. For the record, we found the first one at TJ Maxx for only $19.99 (No I am not a TJ Maxx Brand Ambassador, but hey, if they’re reading this then YES I LOVE YOU!).

Dog owners – you seriously HAVE to get this bed. Your pup will thank you.

So now you’re all caught up! I hope you guys have a great Monday. I will see you later this week with a brand new recipe 😉

Loving Lately

What I am Loving Lately – June 2015

This post is sponsored by Blue Diamond Almonds. As always, all opinions are my own and I truly appreciate your support!

Hello! Good morning and happy Friday! I am kicking off the weekend with a “What I am Loving Lately” post. Feel free to share something you’re loving in the comments below.

Amazon Customer Service

amazonlogo

I am VERY picky about workout headphones. Many of the earbuds on the market are too big for my very small ears. When I find a pair that I like, I buy them over and over until the manufacturer stops making them. I recently purchased a new pair that I loved, but they broke in the middle of my workout on Tuesday! Since I ordered them from Amazon, I used their Chat service to contact customer support to see what my options were. The chat service is the BEST. You get connected to someone right away, and my representative refunded me for the old headphones and sent me a NEW pair with same day shipping. Talk about unreal customer service! And that’s why Amazon is going to take over the world…

Blue Diamond Sriracha Almonds

Blue Diamond Sriracha Almonds

When Blue Diamond offered to send me their NEW Sriracha-flavored almonds, I JUMPED at the opportunity. We cook with sriracha a lot in our house, so I was curious how this new flavor of almonds would taste. Travis and I brought a jar of these to munch on while traveling to Chicago and we both loved them. They aren’t too spicy and I like them much more than other savory-flavored almonds. I plan on using the other jar to make a spicy almond crusted shrimp or chicken dish.

Fresh Flowers from the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market

Flowers

I try to go to the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market as often as I can. There are a few vendors who sell beautiful flowers, but I usually pass them and just head for the produce. Last weekend, I noticed that one vendor had a sale for two bouquets for only $5! I jumped at the opportunity and brought home some gorgeous flowers. Later that day, I spent some time placing small bunches of flowers in mason jars throughout the apartment and I just LOVED the way that it looked. These flowers seem to be lasting much longer than other flowers I’ve purchased. From now on, I am making a point to pick up a bouquet or two from this vendor once a week. It’s the little things that make me happy!

Bessie’s Egg Bed

Bessie's Bed

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve likely seen many photos of Bessie in her bed. Let me tell you, this bed was the best $20 we ever spent on Bessie. I found her bed at TJ Maxx and I honestly just picked it up because of the color – it matches our living room perfectly. As soon as I brought it home, I immediately could tell that Bessie was obsessed with this bed. The “egg” shape allows her to rest her head on the side like a pillow and it’s the cutest thing ever.

About a month into owning this bed, I started searching online for another one, so we have a backup for when this one gets too worn. It’s called the “Deep Dish Cuddler” from Best Friends by Sheri. I found it on Amazon listed for an INSANE price (over $100), which I could never justify spending on a backup bed. Every couple weeks or so, I search on various sites for the bed. PetSmart has some but not in the same color. In case your pup would want a pink bed, Amazon recently dropped the price to $29! If you have a small dog, I HIGHLY recommend this bed. Bessie gives it her wag of approval.

What’s one thing you’re loving this Friday? Let me know in the comments below!

Valentine’s Weekend Recap

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend spending time with people you love! I’m a sucker for Valentine’s Day – any excuse to celebrate love is a win in my book (yea, I’m as sappy as they come).

Our Valentine’s Day celebrations began on Friday night. Travis had plans to beat me home and surprise me with flowers and a glass of wine waiting for me, but unfortunately (for him) I beat him home, thus foiling his plans. Nevertheless, I was thrilled by my beautiful bouquet and loved sipping on a delicious glass of wine before dinner.

Flowers, Wine

We had a reservation at The Little Door, in Santa Monica. You probably recognize the name because I’ve talked about it on the blog a lot – it’s my favorite restaurant in LA! Over the holidays, my brother and sister-in-law gifted us a very generous gift certificate to the restaurant, so Travis and I were excited to use it for our special meal.

My favorite dish on their menu is the Mezze plate. It comes with one million different tips and small bites of Mediterranean goodness. The bread basket contains pita bread, falafel and spanakopita. Lots of different small bites is my favorite way to eat. YUM YUM YUM!

Mezze Plate The Little Door

iPhone photos taken in dark restaurants always make food look just delightful, don’t they? Nope. Not at all.

Saturday morning I was woken up to Travis carrying in breakfast into the bedroom. He made me our favorite Gluten-Free Buckwheat Pancakes and a big mug of coffee. I was half awake, but I still managed to let out a good squeal out of pure delight. I felt like a very lucky girl that morning.

Breakfast in Bed

The weather was beautiful on Saturday afternoon, so we decided to maximize our time outside and took Bessie on a long walk down the Santa Monica promenade. We stopped at Burger Lounge for a quick bite to eat. I wasn’t too hungry, so I opted for their Fresh Vegetable Salad, while Travis splurged for a burger, fries, and onion rings. While I don’t usually go for fried things, you can bet I helped him finish some of those onion rings!

Burger Lounge

I just love Burger Lounge – it’s a great local spot. For being a fast casual restaurant with a relatively young staff, the service is A+! The staff is all very friendly and attentive, making it a pleasure to dine there. One of the busboys brought us a bowl of water for Bessie to sip on because it was so warm outside. Small gestures like that go a long way in my book.

(Yes, I am wearing shorts and sandals in February).

Burger Lounge

Sunday morning, I walked into the dining room to find the newspaper and freshly picked flowers waiting for me. Travis picked them when he was walking Bessie that morning (sorry neighbors!), and they made me so darn happy. I was definitely feeling the love all weekend long.

Flowers

One of Travis’ best friends from college was in town, so we met up for brunch. Afterwards the group came back to our apartment to hang out. It was so great to see our friend, Dan, and meet his new girlfriend.

Friends

Since the majority of our closest friends live on the east coast, the time we get with them is always so special.

Bessie had a great day, too. She loves finding new people to pet her.

I couldn’t have asked for a better Valentine’s weekend. I’m not off from work today, but Travis is. It’s always tough to head back into the work week after such a great weekend, isn’t it?

Life Lately

What I’m Loving Lately

Hello, and happy Thursday friends! My week is flyyyyying by and I am not complaining! I wanted to pop in and share a few things I am loving lately.

Hanukkah

Hanukkah

The first night of Hanukkah was on Tuesday evening. To be honest, I get pretty homesick for my family during any holiday I am away from them – I miss our traditions! In college, sometimes I would FaceTime my parents as we lit our respective menorahs, but now that we have a three-hour time difference, that isn’t really possible.

I told Travis that I really didn’t want any presents this year, but he completely made my night on Tuesday when he came home with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a Hanukkah card. This small gesture meant the world to me, and immediately my homesickness went away. Note: for those of you who will understand this, the card says “I love you latkes!”

Rain in Los Angeles

Rain in LA

It’s been raining a LOT in SoCal recently and I LOOOOOOOVE it! Don’t get me wrong, the sunny 70 degree weather is great, but sometimes you just need a good rainy day as an excuse to get cozy and stay inside. We’re suffering from a serious drought here in California, so the rain is welcomed by everyone. Plus, I’ve been able to whip out my bright-colored rain boots and umbrella that have been hiding in the back of my closet!

A little tip for those of you with tiny feet like me – buy the kid’s Hunter rain boots! They are half the price and the boot’s shaft doesn’t come quite as high up your calves, which is great for those of us who are petite.

Homeland

Homeland

Travis and I used to watch Homeland religiously together on Sunday nights. When we started watching this current season in October, both of us hated it. We thought the story line was unbelievably stupid and the first two episodes were painfully slow, so we stopped watching it. However, when I was home in Boston for Thanksgiving, my whole family insisted that I start watching it again because, according to them, it got really really good again.

So, last weekend Travis and I sat down on the couch and picked up where we left off and quickly realized that my family was right! Immediately, we were hooked again and we must have binge-watched at least 7 episodes in a matter of a few days. Yeah, there are some parts that are pretty unrealistic, but hey, it makes for great TV! Now that we are all caught up, I have to wait until Sunday to find out what happens next! Gah! And that’s why we all love binge-watching…

For those of you who watch the show, what do you think? Are you into this current season or do you wish it was more like seasons 1 and 2?

Quality Time with Bessie

Bessie

I’m sure it’s no surprise to you that Bessie showed up on this list, but I really have been loving her more than usual lately (which I didn’t even know was possible). It probably stems from the fact that we’ve started letting her sleep in our bed. One night back in October, I was feeling upset about something, so Travis plopped her in the bed next to me and she immediately started licking my face. It was like instant therapy. Ever since that night, Bessie has slept right between us – she sometimes even tries to share one of our pillows! We will have to reevaluate this situation come summer when she starts shedding again….but for now she’s staying in the bed!

Holiday Cookie Baking

Holiday Baking

This past weekend my friend, Kelly, came over and we baked SO. MANY. COOKIES. It was so much fun! Honestly, I am not sure how we turned out 5 different batches of cookies from my small kitchen and oven, but we made it work.

We made:

– Molasses Spice Cookies

– Peanut Butter Blossoms

– Peppermint Bark

– Decorated Holiday Sugar Cookies (we used christmas tree, star, dreidel, snowmen, snowflake, and menorah cookie cutters)

– Oatmeal, Cranberry, Pistachio, White Chocolate Chip Cookies (shown above)

Kelly took half of what we made home with her, but I was still left with SO MANY. I gave away most of the cookies as holiday gifts and I think they were a hit! I’ll be sure to share one these recipes with you soon!

That’s it from me! What’s one thing you’ve been loving lately?

Dinner Party

Travis and I have talked about doing monthly dinner parties at our apartment forever now, but we finally got around to it. We hosted a Mediterranean-themed dinner party and invited over four of our friends. We cooked the main meal and our guests brought the appetizers and desserts. All of the food was AMAZING and we all had a blast. Travis and I promised to commit to doing this once a month from now on, but I know with the holidays right around the corner it is going to be tough.

Travis was unpacking from a brief work trip and Bessie decided that his suitcase was her new bed. She does a lot of things that don’t exactly make much sense, but we love her for it. She either reaaaaaaally missed her Dad or she genuinely thought his suitcase was a new bed for her…Really wish I could read her mind sometimes.

Little Door

I met my old coworker for dinner at The Little Door in Santa Monica last week. The Little Door in West Hollywood was one of the first restaurants I ever went to LA and it quickly became my favorite. It is always my go-to restaurant for special occasions. I was thrilled when I heard they were opening a location on the west side of LA because it meant a much shorter trek to my favorite food. The new location did not disappoint, but catching up with my old coworker was even better.

Girls Night

My friend Kelly put together a girl’s night out on Saturday and I was so excited! None of us girls new each other (Kelly was the link), but we hit it off right away! We first went over to Kelly’s for drinks and appetizers (she put together an amazing spread of food) and then we headed out to the Church Key for dinner together.

Girls Night Girls Night

Unfortunately, the photos from the night are very blurry, but I am glad I at least snagged a few. I loved meeting these girls so much, and we all knew right away that we are going to be great friends!

A HUGE highlight of the night was when I spotted the entire cast of How to Get Away With Murder at the table next to us. Do you watch that show? If not, you MUST start – it is so addicting. I watch it religiously every Thursday, so I had a minor freak out when I saw them so close to us. I went over and told them how much I loved the show and they were so cool about it.

How to Get Away with Murder

I don’t even care that it’s blurry because it is the BEST.PHOTO.EVER. Even if you don’t watch HTGAWM, you may recognize a few of them from Harry Potter, Gilmore Girls, and Orange is the New Black.

Protein Pancakes

I got home reaaaaaally late on Saturday night Sunday morning, so I was thrilled to open my eyes in the morning to Travis bringing in breakfast in bed. He brought me my favorite protein pancakes and coffee and I was the happiest girl on the planet. I ended up bringing the food back to our dining room to eat with him because I didn’t want to eat alone, hah.

The rest of Sunday I basically just lounged around all day. And now we are all caught up!

THE END.

Dogs

Dear Bessie

Dear Bessie,

I can’t believe you are the 12th dog we’ve fostered! Don’t worry, you’re not just a number to us. We love you soooooooooo much. Isn’t it crazy that we’ve fostered you since January!? So much has happened during our seven months together, and Travis and I have grown to love you more and more each day. I wanted to share with you seven reasons (one for every month) why I love you…

1. I love the way you greet me every morning when I get home from the gym.

IMG_4891 Whenever I try to stretch, you see it as an open opportunity to jump on my lap and lick my face. I’ll never really understand how you interpret stretching as snuggling, but I’ll take it! Bessie

2. You understand my food photography and never dive for my food when I am taking photos.

You are such a good little listener! Bessie Food

3. You love peanut butter just like me!

4. I love how you’ve learned to snuggle by living with us.

When we first picked you up from the vet (they were giving you a check-up after you were taken from the shelter), you were very happy, but we could tell you definitely had never snuggled with a human before. Whenever I tried, you just squirmed around in my lap, never finding a comfortable position. After months of practice, I would now dare to say that snuggling is your favorite activity! Bessie Snuggle

5. I love that “you” send me text messages and selfies when I am not home.

They put a BIG smile on my face. IMG_1302   Bessie Text

6. You are always happy. Even at the vet!

I can’t even count how many times we’ve had to take you to the vet in the last seven months. Despite your regular injuries and illnesses, you are always happy as can be! Nothing can bring you down! Bessie Sick (Remember the time the nice veterinarian lady gave you a happy shot and you got reaaaaalllllyyyyyy sleeeeeeeeeepppppppy?) Bessie Vet

I think you are the only doggie I know who actually LOVES going to the vet. Maybe it is because they always give you lots of treats! Look at how fast your tail is wagging!

7. Bessie, my TOP reason for loving you is that you make us (and everyone you meet) so darn happy!

When you pass people on the street you always have a way of making them smile. When you meet dogs in the park, they love sniffing you and playing with you! You are gentle and patient with every toddler who wants to pet you… even when they pull on your tail. Bessie Friend You, Ms. Bessie, are loved. And from what I can tell, I am pretty sure you love us a whole lot, too.   Bessie

So….Travis (your “foster dad”) and I talked. You see, we couldn’t imagine coming home at the end of the day and not seeing you there to greet us. We couldn’t bear the idea of missing out on one million kisses from you every morning. We couldn’t see a life without you in it.

So, we decided to adopt you! You are now officially part of our little family and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Welcome to your new Forever Home, Bessie. We promise to love you forever!

And they lived happily ever after
