I’ve always loved reading about other bloggers’ morning routines. As someone who needs routine to feel relaxed and productive, reading about other people’s daily and morning habits always gives me some inspiration for my own. I am, wholeheartedly, a morning person. However, it’s funny, because as I was typing this post I couldn’t help but laugh at how drastically my mornings have changed from what they were five years ago.
From 2012-2014 I worked in consulting, and in order to get my workout in before arriving to the office at 7AM each morning, I had to set my alarm for 5AM. At first it was so rough, but I eventually got into a routine and came to enjoy some quiet time to myself in the very early hours of the morning before most others were awake.
While I no longer have to wake up at 5AM (a major perk of working for yourself and not having kids yet), I still find that I am most productive before noon…but I now get to sleep in a bit longer, thank goodness! So, in this post, I’m giving you a little peek into my new weekday morning routine. Having a routine in the A.M. helps me to feel calm and set up for success throughout the rest of the day. Hope you enjoy!
6:45AM: Our alarm goes off. Travis takes Bessie on a walk, and while they’re out, I wash my face, make the bed, and prepare Bessie’s breakfast.
7:00AM: I always begin my day with a mug of warm water with lemon to aid with digestion, so I heat water in a mug and add a good squeeze of fresh lemon juice. While I sip on my lemon water, I prepare breakfast for both Travis and me. My go-to weekday breakfasts are my protein pancakes or avocado toast and scrambled eggs.
7:15AM: Once Travis and Bessie are back from their walk, I feed Bess and finish making our breakfasts. I also brew a pot of coffee to drink with my breakfast. I drink it black with one scoop of collagen peptides.
7:25AM: While I eat my breakfast, I open my laptop and read the news before checking my emails. This is one of my favorite times of the day, so I try not to rush it. For good summaries of what is going on in the world, I really enjoy reading The Skimm and Need 2 Know.
After I’m done with the news, I skim my emails and see if there is anything pressing that requires an immediate response. If I have a blog post scheduled that day, I will also reread the post one more time before pressing “publish”.
During all of this, I drink another full glass of water to make sure I am hydrated for my upcoming workout. Starkey Spring Water is 100% nature made, and is sourced from a spring in the mountains of Idaho. It’s naturally very high in alkalinity and has a crisp, refreshing taste. I think it tastes best extra cold, straight from the fridge. You can find it at Whole Foods and on Amazon Fresh.
8:00AM: After breakfast, I clean up the kitchen, brush my teeth, put in my contacts, and get dressed for my workout. Lately I’ve been loving the Physique 57 online classes that I can do from my living room. I also enjoy running and walking in Central Park this time of year (if it’s not raining or ridiculously humid). Working out first thing in the morning energizes me for my day, and I love getting it out of the way, so I don’t have to think about it later.
9:00AM: Once I finish my workout, I shower, change and get ready to work. Sure, I could hang around in my pajamas all day, but I’ve found that getting dressed for the day helps me to be more productive. From there, every day is different depending on what I am working on. It could be recipe testing, food photography, editing, scheduling social media, and much more “behind the scenes” computer work that we, bloggers, do.

Loved reading this!! I’m also a morning person, both by habit and necessity. I commute into NYC, so I usually am awake between 5-5:30am to drive in before the traffic really builds up. Your morning routine sounds like my dream morning — setting the alarm clock a little later, being able to eat a breakfast that’s NOT scarfed down while at my work desk, and then buckling down to work with the entire morning yawning open before me. 🙂 I cram in the work that “we bloggers do” after I get home from my day job and on weekends (and, clearly, when I need a break from the day job, like right now! haha). Fingers crossed that one day I, too, can write a post like this one. 😉 Thanks for sharing!!

Aww thank you for reading and commenting, CJ! I REALLY feel you. I used to have to leave for work so early in the AM, that I would chug a protein shake in the car on my way and then be hungry for lunch by 10AM – ha! And I totally know the feeling of coming home from a long day and having to get blog work done. It is NO EASY TASK. I get it, really, I do. Hang in there!! I truly believe that hard work pays off!

I am not a morning person yet although I’m trying to become one

It definitely takes some getting used to if you’re not a morning person naturally.
