Travis and I are heading up to Maine next week to celebrate July 4th with my family. My entire immediate family all moved at the end of last year (my parents from Boston to Maine, my brother’s family from Boston to Florida, and Travis and I from Los Angeles to NYC), so it’s not always easy to get everyone together in one place. We’ve all agreed that moving forward we’ll spend time together at my parents’ place in Maine every July 4th, making it one holiday we can always look forward to.
In honor of Independence Day, I wanted to make a festive drink that the whole family could enjoy while soaking up the warmer temps. I’ve always loved the combination of fresh strawberries and basil, so I used that as the inspiration (with a citrus twist) for this Sparkling Strawberry Basil Citrus Mocktail recipe.
This mocktail is very simple to make. You’ll need access to a high speed blender, even a mini one is fine (FYI: I love my NutriBullet). The fresh strawberries and basil go into the blender with a bit of water and sugar and everything is blended up until it’s completely puréed. Lastly, the strawberry-basil mixture is combined with Sparkling Poland Spring® Brand Natural Spring Water for a refreshing, bubbly mocktail.
I grew up drinking Poland Spring water, and I love that Poland Spring Sparkling is free of sugars, sweeteners, colors, and calories. They recently debuted ten new flavors of sparkling water, and their Lemon Lime flavor (used in this recipe) is so tasty for summer!
This Sparkling Strawberry Basil Citrus Mocktail is great on its own, but if you want to throw some vodka in there, I won’t blame you. 😉 Wishing those of you who are celebrating a happy 4th of July!

- 12 medium strawberries extra sweet and ripe preferred, stems removed and sliced in half
- 3 Tablespoons water
- 1 Tablespoon coconut sugar or raw cane sugar plus more for each glass
- 1 large pinch salt
- 10-12 fresh basil leaves torn
- 6 oz. Simply Bubbles Poland Spring Brand® Unflavored Sparkling Water divided
- 2 oz. Lemon Lime Flavored Poland Spring Brand® Sparkling Water divided
- Ice cubes
-
To a high speed blender (I used a NutriBullet), add the strawberries, water, 1 Tablespoon sugar, salt and basil leaves. Blend on high until puréed, 20-25 seconds. Allow to stand for one minute.
-
Pour some sugar on a small plate. Wet the rims of two old fashioned glasses. Turn the glasses upside down and dip the rims into the sugar on the plate.
-
Add 3-4 ice cubes to each glass, then divide the strawberry mixture between the two glasses. Top each with about 3 oz. of unflavored sparkling water and 1 oz. of Lemon Lime sparkling water.
-
Give each glass one quick stir and serve immediately.
